Quick guide

Five steps, from setup to cleaning the cell.

1

Assembly

Assembly

With the display facing down, open the door, insert the battery and close the door until it clicks.

Screw the PTFE filling tube onto the fitting and tighten it firmly without forcing.

2

Charging

Charging

Connect the supplied USB-C cable to the instrument connector.

Full charge: about 3-4 hours.
Battery life: 10 hours of continuous use, 100 hours on standby.

3

Startup

Startup

Press and hold PWR for at least 3 seconds. At startup the instrument runs system initialization, piston zero adjustment and a sensor test.

Then set, from Menu > Settings: Language (IT, EN, DE, FR, ES) → Date and time → Global Units (g/cm³, kg/m³, lb/gal US and IP; °C, °F, K).

Measurement

Measurement
⚠ Rinsing: when the sample changes, perform at least 3 rinses by drawing in and expelling the new sample, until the display shows “Detected”. Rinses are not saved.

Cell cleaning

Cell cleaning

After each work session: draw in the solvent with PUSH, wait 5-10 seconds and expel it; repeat 3-5 times.

Solvent Sample type
Deionized water Aqueous and sugar samples
Deionized water or water and ethanol Spirits and wines
Isopropanol (IPA) Oils and fats; for stubborn fatty residues, hexane followed by IPA
IPA and water Difficult residues

Do not use acetone or aromatic solvents (benzene, toluene). Every 9-12 months, lubricate the piston O-ring from Menu > Service > Clean Pump.

PC programs

Three free programs, each with its own download page and manual on software.gibertini.com, and MicroDens Logger Pro, a paid program. All run on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

From measurement to PC: sample, MEMS measuring cell, density and concentration, “Detected” status; then the MicroDens BLE dongle to Logger Pro and Data Logger, or the USB-C cable to USB Extractor and Excel

MicroDens USB Extractor

From the MicroDens to Excel with just the USB cable

Reads the entire memory of the density meter over the USB-C cable and writes measurements and adjustments to an Excel file, one row per measurement. Out-of-limits measurements are highlighted in red.

MicroDens USB Extractor
ConnectionSupplied USB-C cable
RequiresMicrosoft Excel installed on the PC
Operating systemWindows 10 or 11, 64-bit

MicroDens Data Logger

MicroDens measurements in Excel, over the BLE dongle

Every measurement saved on the density meter reaches the PC through the MicroDens BLE dongle, and the program writes it to the open Excel file, one row per measurement. With Send Data on the instrument, the entire memory arrives too.

MicroDens Script Runner

MicroDens configuration, applied from a file

Applies the .mds script prepared by Gibertini service to the MicroDens and logs the result of each command. It downloads the instrument and MicroDens BLE dongle firmware from the Gibertini server and installs it over USB.

MicroDens Logger Pro

Every measurement acquired in real time

Every measurement saved on the MicroDens enters the active Logger Pro session with the date, time and instrument serial number; the chart and the result against the tolerance update immediately.

Sessions and archive Search by batch, product or operator; export to Excel, PDF or CSV
27 predefined methods Data model, statistics, chart and QC evaluation set by the method
Three chart types Time series, grouped, overlay
Batch comparison Up to five batches of the same method, with mean and standard deviation
Fermentation module Wine and beer fermentation, separately licensed

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the connection. MicroDens USB Extractor uses just the USB-C cable and downloads the entire instrument memory to an Excel file. MicroDens Data Logger requires the MicroDens BLE dongle and writes every measurement to Excel as soon as it is saved; with Send Data it also receives the entire memory. MicroDens Script Runner applies a .mds configuration file received from Gibertini service and updates the firmware.

MicroDens Data Logger is free and writes measurements to an Excel file, one row per measurement.

MicroDens Logger Pro, a paid program, collects measurements in sessions, with charts, limits, batch comparison and Excel, PDF and CSV reports, and offers the Fermentation module for wine and beer. A free 30-day trial version is available on request.

It applies the .mds configuration file prepared by Gibertini service to the MicroDens, with the instrument connected to the PC by the USB-C cable or the MicroDens BLE dongle. The execution log is saved to a text file. The same program updates the instrument and dongle firmware, downloaded from the Gibertini server.

Yes. The instrument stores 2000 measurements with date and time and works without a connection to a PC or network. The PC is needed to transfer measurements and to apply a configuration with MicroDens Script Runner.

Choose the solvent according to the nature of the sample, draw it in with PUSH, wait 5-10 seconds and expel it; repeat 3-5 times.
  • Deionized water: aqueous and sugar samples
  • Deionized water or water and ethanol: spirits and wines
  • Isopropanol (IPA): oils and fats; for stubborn fatty residues, hexane followed by isopropanol
  • Isopropanol and water: difficult residues
Do not use acetone or aromatic solvents (benzene, toluene).

The first reading can be affected by residues of the cleaning liquid or of the previous sample left in the cell. For this reason, when the sample changes, at least 3 rinses are performed by drawing in and expelling the new sample (rinsing with the sample). SmartStabilizer compares the readings of successive fillings, distinguishes the sample from these transient phases and shows their status:

  • Learning  sample not yet detected;
  • Detected  successive fillings agree and the reading is stable.

Saving remains the operator's choice: tap Save on the display.

MicroDens programs run on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. No versions are available for macOS or Linux.

The serial number is on the label applied to the instrument body and should be quoted in support requests.
